Message from the Health Director
Laureen Duerksen RN, BSN, M’Ed
I am honoured to be serving the community of Yale First Nation and am excited by the growth and development coming to and from this community. The position of Health Director was created in 2016 to ensure that the health needs and concerns of the community were heard by a knowledgeable ear and that the community would have an advocate who could help navigate the often complicated system that is health.
The Health Director is accountable to Chief and Council under the direct supervision of the Administrator. This position is responsible for the overall management of all health programs which includes but is not limited to program supervision, staff supervision, program planning, development, implementation and evaluation, policy development, and budget management.
The Health Director is an integral part of the Yale First Nation management team and is often the first contact for First Nation Health Authority (FNHA), Fraser Health Authority (FHA) and community members. The Health Department is an integrated service working collaboratively with all departments (Housing, Education, Social Development, Natural Resources, Human Resources, IT/Communications and Finance) to ensure a holistic approach to community health is achieved. The ability to communicate quickly and freely within the departments ensures that community member’s needs are quickly addressed by the right department and eliminates duplication of services.
